The Delhi Metro is the most reliable way to avoid Old Delhi traffic.
| How | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train: Take the Delhi Metro Violet Line to Lal Qila station or the Yellow Line to Chandni Chowk station. | 1-5 minutes walk from Lal Qila station; 15 minutes from Chandni Chowk. | ₹10 - ₹60 from most central Delhi locations | The Metro is highly recommended to avoid the severe road congestion typical of Old Delhi. |
| Car: Taxis, auto-rickshaws, or ride-share apps (Uber/Ola) can drop you near the Lahori Gate entrance. | 30-45 minutes from Central New Delhi, highly dependent on traffic. | ₹150 - ₹300 via ride-share | Old Delhi traffic can be extreme; factor in extra travel time and expect a short walk from the drop-off point to the ticket counters. |
| Walk: Walk from nearby historic sites like Jama Masjid or the Chandni Chowk market. | 10-15 minutes | Free | Cycle rickshaws are also widely available for short hops between the fort and surrounding attractions. |
